Once every 30 years, a "lightning in a bottle" project comes along. If "The Godfather", "Cooley High", "The Ten Commandments", "Roots", & "Once Upon A Time In America" are mixed in one container? That's the power of Calvin Ruffin II's serial series entitled "Real Life Story". This show, based on Ruffin's 2014 underground smash novel "The Maryland Boys", takes our audience on a four-generation journey with the Williams family.
The family's roots were in Georgia since the Civil War. After the debut of the 1915 film "Birth of a Nation", Klan activity in the deep South skyrocketed. In 1927, to escape the terror, the Williams family moved to the upper South to Washington DC. With all the splendor of America's historical timeline, this story brings the Black Experience into the 21st century in classic-era film noir style.
